Thought Provoking Students at TMHS who had no prior knowledge of Adobe Illustrator or wood working skills came together and realized what community meant beyond the classroom. For some students it meant sports or food, while for others it was all about the city by the bay.

Community Bench Project

Students at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School (TMHS) were asked to design 9" x 9" wooden squares for a bench project that was to represent their individual communities.

At the start of the project students were told the bench and their tiles must be strong enough to hold the body weight of three adults; provide physical comfort; be visually appropriate for an academic environment; communicate what community is; and be manufactured.

Throughout the project the students work evolved into many wonderful things. Representing who they were, what they worked for, and what inspired them.
