Hands on Inspiration San Francisco State University lecturer, Robert Natata, joined students from the School of the Arts & Sciences in learning about the history and culture of the drum and the symbolism it holds for many countries across the world. Students then modeled their drums based on similar research.

Drum Project

Students from the School of the Arts & Sciences in San Francisco designed and built drums using large cardboard tubes and other materials. They also decorated their drums using glue, paper, acrylics, and/or other supplies that they may have found at home or in the classroom.

Inspiration for this project was gathered through many methods, but especially through guest speakers and presentations. More specifically, Robert Natata from the San Francisco State University Design & Industry program spoke with the students about the culture and historical design of the drum-allowing students to learn on a whole new level.
