Problem Solving Throughout the Community Bench Project, design issues arose which required students and mentors to work together to craft a solution. By working together, both mentors and students honed problem solving skills which are valued skills in any field. Through the process of evolving a solution, students built self confidence and friendships with other students and mentors.

Higher Education

The Industrial Design Outreach (iDo) Program emphasizes higher education by reaching out to community organizations in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, local educators from all grade levels, and potential student mentors. By doing so, iDo enhances student's ability to graduate high school, attend trade schools, and/or go onto a four year college.

Benefits include "a connection between learning and the real world for students"; revitalization of older curriculums; community investments in education.
