In the spring of 2008, Stacey Jones, founding director Martin Linder, and iDo participants began a research initiative to study the effects of design within the classroom. The main purpose behind such research is to investigate the relationship between the teaching of design methodologies and a student's academic performance, including successful completion of high school, enrollment in college, and completion of college.

A series of surveys have been developed for high school and college students to respond on the impact that art and design education has on them academically. The iDo research team is currently administering these surveys.
